The border service at Sal’s Amílcar Cabral International Airport had carried out 328 consultations using the new PASSE border control system as of noon yesterday, the same day the system was officially unveiled by Minister of Internal Administration Lívio Lopes and by Portugal’s State Secretary of Internal Administration, Dalila Araújo.

The PASSE system, whose name is a Portuguese-language acronym for Automatic and Secure Exit and Entry Process, reduces waiting time at border posts by as much as three times, meaning that each outgoing or incoming passenger may spend as little as 30 seconds at the posts.

In addition, the system has a modern document identification standard that recognizes false visas and passports, as well as any abnormality in other documents, more quickly.

Amílcar Cabral International Airport is the second in the country to get the PASSE system, which was first installed in Praia International Airport. So far, says Lívio Lopes, the results have been positive. The new system is soon to be set up at the international airports on the islands of Boa Vista and São Vicente.
