The Praia district court has ordered three Judiciary Police agents held in preventative detention. The three officers of the law are accused of taking more than 140 kilograms of cocaine from Judiciary Police vaults.
Nelson Tavares, Manuel Marques and Alino Vieira went before a judge in court yesterday afternoon. The hearing on charges of having funneled off some 140 kilos of cocaine seized in Judiciary Police operations lasted until 8:00 pm.
The removal of the cocaine was detected late last month, and internal investigations carried out by the Judiciary Police led to the suspects, Nelson Tavares, Manuel Marques and Alino Vieira, all three of whom were ordered held in preventative custody by a Praia district court judge. The three were taken to São Martinho prison under extraordinarily heavy security.
All indications are that the drugs siphoned off by the agents were seized in operations carried out by the Judiciary Police in recent times.
The central director of the Judiciary Police, Óscar Tavares, is expected to make a pronouncement in the coming hours.
