Tete Alinho was born in 1956 on the island of Santiago.

She left Cape Verde to study in Portugal (the land of her father) for one year, then Cuba for 5 years.

Her first album, Mares do Sul was released in 1989, followed 6 years later by Menino das Ilhas which was aimed at children. 1999 saw the release of the Spanish language album, Sentires. Finally in 2000, De cor a som
